Roy Haynes and the Fountain of Youth
Beautiful show, tonight, at Dizzy’s, with the Roy Haynes quartet. Despite his age, Roy Haynes looks young and is most vigorous on stage. He is accompanied, this week, by Jaleel Shaw on alto saxophone, Martin Bejerano on piano and David Wong on bass. As Haynes mentioned it himself, he hasn’t been back here in a few years. Tonight’s first set started a series of 9 coming sets scheduled until Sunday. It would be worth going to each one of them, since the pleasure derived from the freshness and humor of Haynes, the melodies of Bejerano and Shaw and the intelligence of the sequence of the songs will not diminish. Of course, Wong's presence is invaluable also.
