New Directions celebrates its 75th anniversary
Last night in the Great Hall of Cooper Union, downtown Manhattan, Barbara Epler, the President of New Directions, put together a lively evening in honor of the 75th Anniversary of her company, which is, by far, one of the most delightful independent publishing houses in the country – featuring writers none other than Helen DeWitt, Horacio Castellanos Moya, Roberto Bolano, Muriel Spark or Vladimir Nabokov. It was unfortunate that for some reason the building had turned the AC on, especially since it is seriously starting to freeze in New York City.
